Vestido (2014-15)
Autor: Tales Frey
Foto e texto – Dimensões: 120 x 56,6 cm
Edição: 6 + 2 P.A. (Pertence ao Museu de Serralves, Porto, Portugal)
The work was conceived from a performance that took place in four stages: on 20 October 2014 and on 14, 15 and 19 May 2015. The action functions as a specific socio-political study, whose environment corresponds to the same two-named street in the city of Porto, located between the Torre dos Clérigos and the church of Santo Ildefonso.
The title of this work refers both to the object of study, the dress (an adornment considered feminine in a cisheteronormative culture), and to the person of the male gender who is covered by a costume, dressed or clad in some kind of garment.
The established rule was that, when I managed to try on each dress in each window, I would take a self-portrait (selfie) with the dress in front of the mirror and, if I didn’t manage to achieve my goal, I would photograph the dress displayed in the window.

A creative expression that aims to intervene and give visibility to other possibilities for the Earth, freeing it from the rigid forms with which it has been appropriated.
It also has another broader purpose: to draw attention to man’s place in planetary history, because the moment is decisive; and to draw attention to the self-destruction of his environment.
This shift in perspective makes the relationship with the planet the essential issue that involves everyone. Art can intervene and give visibility to the tasks that arise from the emergence of the Earth’s dense presence.
